NAIJA HAIR CAN GROW
Hiya,
Im still on about my product reviews and this post is focused on Hair Coloring! While there are a variety of products out there that can color your hair to whatever degree you like, you must know that the effects of these products differ. Some products may have more lasting effects on your hair than others, this post will guide you on making the decision with regards hair coloring.

There are different types of hair colors available in markets and beauty stores; there is the permanent hair color, semi permanent hair color and the temporary hair color.

The Permanent hair color uses hydrogen peroxide and ammonia to open the hair shaft and allow the hair dye to actually bond with the hair. It is the only sure way to lighten your hair but as the name implies, it is PERMANENT and the only way to get rid of it if ever you get tired, is to cut off the colored hair or allow it to grow out or dye your hair again with another permanent dye but even then the results will still be dependent on your already dyed hair. There are a lot of brands that make permanent 'at home' hair coloring kits and I have tried a few in my coloring days. The first permanent hair color I tried was a Garnier Hair Coloring kit in one of those light brown colors and guess what? My hair turned out ORANGE!! I have a picture but I refuse to put it up, its too embarrassing! I remember being stared at in Macys the day I got my hair colored with it; at first I thought it was out of admiration but then I noticed a few snickers behind my back and I knew I was being laughed at and for good reason, the color had washed out my hair line and there was no demarcation between my hair and my forehead, I was just an orange basket ball!!1ol
Needless to say, I never used that brand again, then I tried Dark and Lovely's version in Honey Blonde and I was sold!!

Just looking at this picture makes me want to color my hair sooo bad but I know I am not ready for the commitment just yet. Because as I said you will be stuck with the color you choose. I found that with this particular brand, the immediate effect of coloring my hair was that it was soft but do not get carried away by that softness because in a matter of days it became like straw but that was of course because I did not know about moisturizing and sealing my hair back then. I once used the Loreal Touch up  Hair Color kit but it didn't give me good enough results as the Dark and Lovely brand did. With Dark and Lovely, the color on the pack is the color you get and it actually lasts a long while without fading and the smell is not as pungent as some other hair dyes. It is definitely a recommendable permanent hair color.

Another permanent but natural hair color is HENNA.

Henna is derived from plants and while it can be used to color hair, the only color it produces is red. It will not give you Marilyn Monroe Blonde locks! The reddish/copperish tone remains on your hair until it grows out or fades but it cannot be totally reversed that it is why it is said to be permanent. It is also safer and more gentle on hair as are all natural products, so if you want to avoid the complications of  manufactured hair products, get some Henna and color your hair!

The second Category is Semi-Permanent Hair color which partially penetrates the hair and can survive few weeks of shampooing and YES I have tried some of this type of color too. You see, when my hair started breaking from all the permanent coloring I was doing to it, I decided that using a milder hair color might be better for my hair but I wanted to remain blondish! What I quickly realized from these semi permanent hair colors was that they do not have the ability to lift your hair shaft like the permanent colors do and therefore all claims that they can make you a blondie are BIG FAT LIES!! I tried the Clairol brand in light brown

And to my utter dismay all the color was gone in about a week! It should have been called a temporary color jor, false advertising!!
The best Semi Permanent Hair Color I have used even though it's not exactly called a semi permanent dye is the Bigen brand.

It claims to have no ammonia or hydrogen peroxide like most semi permanent colors BUT it must have a lil somthin' somthin' because that color lasted!! It did not make my hair as light as the permanent color would have but the hair color was noticeable and did last at least a month. So yes, I would recommend Bigen although you must follow the timing instructions oh, My mum used Bigen last summer on her hair, thought she could do some cooking for an hour while the color battled with the grey strands she was trying to get rid of, what ended up happening was devastating! Not only did she get rid of her greys, her entire strands of hair just kept falling out and guess what? she blamed ME for not reading the instructions to her!! MUMS!!

Anyways unto the last category I have come across; Temporary Hair Color. This type of hair color just sits on your hair strands and will wash off immediately it comes in contact with water or even sweat. I have used pretty good temporary hair colors, at a point all the girls in my family including my mum used the Lottabody Hair Color Mousse in Red until we stopped seeing it to buy, It was good! All you needed to do was simply apply the hair color mousse to your hair as you would ordinary hair mousse and style, I know other brands make such mousses but I have never bothered to try any. Now what I use is  the Fancifull Temporary Hair color in frivolous brown

and it works just like the mousse though it is not in mousse form. I simply pour a little in the palm of my hands and rub on my hair and style. That easy! What it does for my hair is give it a rich all round brown color on days I feel my hair color is lacking luster. I am in no way committed to it and can wash it out whenever I please, that's what I love about it! What I am bombed about is, I can never be a blondie with this type of color either *sob sob* but it is by far the safest way to get your hair colored with no strings attached as it is also extra mild on your hair.

I have come to the end of this post, hope I have helped anyone who was considering getting their hair colored have all the basic information they need. I focused only on coloring products in this post, I will go into adverse effects of coloring in the future but Ill leave you with this, if you want to color your hair but you do not have the energy to commit to constant moisturizing and sealing and conditioning treatments (which you should be doing if you are on a hair journey) then please forget about using a permanent hair color. The effect can be adverse and irreversible. Shikena!! Please drop a comment or ask a question if you have any below. Thanks for stopping by!

Hiya, how’s everyone been? As I said in my last post, my focus this month is basically hair product reviews and this post is a review on V05 hair conditioners, my favorite brand of cheap conditioners.

I know a lot of ladies who spend a fortune on expensive hair products just because they think the more expensive a product is, the better it works! I beg to differ! While I can splurge on different hair products, I know that splurging on a hair conditioner might not be such a smart choice.

Why? Well first of all, if conditioning your hair is part of your weekly routine, you will need a generous amount of hair conditioner and that expensive conditioner will not last you at all. You will end up not using enough on your hair even though your hair needs it or having to spend more money on buying bottles upon bottles.

Most conditioning treatments like prepoo’s last on your hair only a few minutes to few hours, why waste money buying an expensive conditioner that will be down your shower drain in no time.

V05 Hair Conditioners are cheap and cheerful! In Naija here I bought them for N500 each though I recently found them at Park and Shop for about N300 ( I felt so cheated). In the US you can find them at the Dollar Store for less than a dollar sometimes!! That’s how cheap they are!

They smell great, come in a variety of scents, I bought the Kiwi lime squeeze, the extra body volumizing conditioner and there's the strawberry and cream one which is my favorite! And frankly unlike most expensive brands they are plain old conditioners. Sometimes you just need to keep things simple, with hair conditioning, simplicity is key. At the end of the day, all you want is soft manageable  hair.

I use my V05 Conditioners twice a week. Once in the weekend mixed with my higher end Aphogee 2minute Keratin conditioner ( not available in Naija as far as I know) as a Cowash. Then again during the week especially if my hair is not feeling right, I would apply my V05 conditioner as I would a hair moisturizer and either bun my hair up all day or cover it up with a shower cap for about an hour and then wash it out then or at the end of the day. I am telling you, my hair thanks me whenever I do this!! It feels so soft, manageable and hardly any strand of hair is lost!!

There’s a lady on Youtube with a channel called ‘Kiss’, she has stated that she used V05 as a daily moisturizer on her hair during her relaxer stretch. Then another Lady on there with a channel called ‘ulovemegz’ actually made me see the use of cheap conditioners like V05. Now these ladies have grown long beautiful hair so they must know what they are talking about.

If you are finding it hard to get persuaded check out their videos below;

I too was spending 20dollars on conditioners that I thought were superior to these cheap options but I am now convinced that there is no difference as far as V05 goes, they all work the same. Now this ideology of mine is restricted to ONLY conditioners; with shampoos, hair moisturizers, relaxers etc, you get what you pay for.

I hope I have convinced you all, to save that money you are spending on expensive hair conditioners, however if you are not convinced that’s fine, who am I to tell you how to spend your money ;). Just give it a thought though. Any comments, please write below, Catch you on the next post!!

How Y’all Doin’? *in my best WENDY WILLIAMS voice*, I have not had much feed back from you my esteemed readers so I don’t know if my tips are helping? Hope they are! I know you read my posts but Id also love to know how your hair is doing too…

Okay to my topic, this month I want to focus on hair products that work, I have mentioned most of them in the past but Id like to highlight them again and also give you tips on how BEST they will work for you.

Castor Oil is proven hair oil that promotes and stimulates growth of hair follicles. Its thick, doesn’t particularly have a smell and it REALLY GROWS HAIR!! Whether it be Caucasian, African, 4b, 2a, 3c, natural or relaxed, castor oil grows it all!! The Jamaican Black Castor Oil is particularly popular among the African American circle but to me its essentially the same as normal castor oil.

BUT you have to know how to make it work for your hair! As mentioned above, it’s a very thick oil so applying it directly to your whole head of your hair, root to tip will weigh your hair down and make it look limp, a very unattractive look!! To avoid that, you will need to mix it with other lighter oils like olive or almond oil to reduce its thick consistency.

For Castor Oil to work for you, I advice you use it as a prepoo treatment- which is any hair treatment done before you shampoo your hair to prevent it from the drying effect of most shampoos- applying castor oil to your scalp and massaging it then covering it with a shower cap or staying under a hooded dryer will allow it penetrate deep into your hair follicles and stimulate hair growth, follow it with a shampoo to reduce product buildup, repeat at least once a week and your hair will definitely be THICKER soon!

Its one of the best oils you can use to target certain problem areas on your scalp like your hair line or any thinning patch on your head. Best way for it to work for you is not to douse your hair with it oh!!lol. Best way is to soak up a cotton ball with castor oil, section your hair or concentrate on the problem area and gently rub the cotton ball on the scalp area, massage gently, repeat as often as you can but remember to wash your hair after a while to avoid a buildup.

Again Castor Oil will NOT work for you if you apply it heavy handedly to your hair, its too thick for such generosity. What will happen is, your hair pores will get clogged, retain dirt from sweat and your hair will suffer in the long run for that.

So that’s it for my Castor Oil review. Expect more reviews from me, try castor oil out(which is extremely affordable and available) and pleeeeeaaaaassssseeee let me know how your hair is reacting to it, heck let me know about anything concerning your hair, Im eager to hear from my readers, its all the encouragement I need to keep blogging or else!!!lol just kidding!

Thanks for stopping by oh!!Keep it here!!

Hiya, I noticed my HOW TO posts receive the most hits especially my Twist Out Post, So I have decided to do more HOW TO posts. In this post I show you step by step how I achieved my wedding hair updo in minutes. Its really easy if you’ve got the right tools eventhough it looks like a lot has gone into achieving it!!

I got inspired to recreate this look with a little modification after I stumbled upon JOHNNY LAVOY’S Videos on you tube! He was recreating one of Beyonce’s red carpet looks and by the time I was done watching this video I was sold! The models hair transformed from a short tiny ponytail into a sophisticated updo. Watch the Video above.

With the Johnny Lavoy Updo, the model had her hair pulled all the way back but for my look, I decided my hair brought to the front in a side swept swoop would be more flattering

WHAT YOU WOOULD NEED;
A pack of hair extensions without the weft( expressions attachment)

A wide tooth comb and a soft bristle brush

As many bobby pins as you can get

A hair net

Hair bands

Clip in hair extensions

A gold ribbon(optional)

The first step is to as usual prep your hair by moisturizing and sealing it, next you part your hair on the side, brush the hair to the side to neatly smooth out any stray stands and then hold it in a pony tail with a hair band.

Now its time to focus on the attachment, take it out of the pack, divide it into two unequal sections using a hair band, to the shorter section, rat it up and scrunch it together with your fingers till it looks like a rough bun

Then braid the longer section adding a ribbon (gold or any color of choice), secure with another hair band or a rubber band for a more secure hold.

When that is ready, cover the scrunched up bun with a hair net and secure it tightly with yet another hair or rubber band.

The attachment is then ready to be attached. Attach it to your own hair bun by securely placing the scrunched bun covered with hair net right in the middle of your own ponytail and pin it around the edges.

Once that is secured then its time to bring out the Clip in extensions, clip them round the hair netted bun and patiently use the hair to cover the net, securing it with hair pins as much as you can, and then tuck the ends of the clip in extensions under the bun.

When your bun is in the best shape possible, take the braided section of the attachment and wrap it round the bun, secure the ends with hair pins

Clip on a hair accessory like the pearl and gold hair clips I  had on the side of  my swoop and VIOLA you have yourself a sophisticated Updo!! Of course the picture above is not as neat as on my wedding day but I am sure you get the picture. Below are pictures of me with this updo in a variation, the side swoop has been braided and tucked in and the clip in extensions rather than tucked away in the bun are left dangling down.

I have come to the end of this post, hopefully you find it useful. This look can be recreated not just for weddings but for dinner parties, award shows and other formal events. Shout out to Mimi for purchasing clips to create her own clip in extensions, for all those interested, clips are still available so holla if you need them by dropping a comment! Thanks for stopping by!!
